Supporting rising stars

Every year Netier picks two rising stars in Australia to support. For 2023 we have two incredible female drivers who are both making waves in their fields.

Maisie Place

Maisie Place is a talented mechanic and race car driver who had been making waves in the motorsport scene at a young age. She learnt to drive when she was 6 years old and spent most of her childhood at racetracks as her dad was a huge race fan. Maisie started doing Motorkhana when she was 14 and started track days at Wakefield Park at 16. She completed her work experience at a motorsport workshop in Canberra, then kick started her career as a mechanic. Through this career she began rally navigating, and shortly after got her first RX-8 cup car. In her maiden season she completed her first ever endurance race, the Wakefield 300 and got 1st in class and 8th outright.

She is now in her 5th year of racing and owns a 3-car race team. Multitalented, Maisie competes in the Mazda RX8 Championships as a driver and mechanic on not only her own cars, but that of fellow competitors. Plus, when she isn’t hitting the tar tracks, Maisie is a rally navigator competing in some of Australia’s toughest events. She had worked with racing school RaceAway Track Time to put together all-female race teams, an ambassador for Race Chix and received the Coral Taylor award.

Emily Duggan

Emily Duggan is an inspiring V8 Supercar Driver and has been a maverick in her racing career. She was named as Australia’s leading female racer and is a huge advocate for female empowerment. She is an ambassador for the Motorsport Australia Girls on Track program and is a keynote speaker in multiple schools. Not only that, but she was also recognised as a rising star for women in sports – Women’s Health Magazine. In March 2016, Emily made history as the first female driver to compete in the Super3 V8 Touring Car Series – the third tier of national V8 Supercar competition.

In 2017, Emily was a finalist for the prestigious Cosmopolitan Sportswoman of the Year Award. As a result of her outstanding on-track performances, she also received the opportunity to race internationally in an 8-hour endurance race to finish the season. In 2019, Emily successfully raced in Super3 (third category of V8 Supercar) under her own team on a limited budget. However, she proved her talent behind the 650 horsepower machines with a fight to 6th place in just her second round. Emily has an impressive track record with 9 wins, 29 podiums, 2 pole positions, 2 lap records at Bathurst and Wakefield Park Raceway.
